Man accused in shooting is out of jail
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A man accused of shooting a Pennsylvania state trooper's daughter has been released from jail on 100,000 bond.
Lee Campbell III, 18, of New Castle was released from the Lawrence County Jail on Wednesday. He is under electronic monitoring and must stay in the county and away from the victim's family and witnesses, said District Attorney John Bongivengo.
Campbell is charged with homicide in the Nov. 1 death of Kayla Jones, daughter of Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Eric Jones.
A witness at Campbell's preliminary hearing testified that Campbell was attempting to untie a string from a gun when it fired. Campbell, Jones and another woman were in the bedroom of a Chestnut Street home when the gun fired. Jones died a short time later at Jameson Memorial Hospital.
Campbell had been held without bond since his arrest on the day of the shooting. He is charged with a general charge of homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person.
