Salem may join Trumbull conference

SALEM — Salem Board of Education will look into joining the Trumbull Athletic Conference next year.

The school district has approved sending a letter of intent to join the conference.

Superintendent Stephen Larcomb said the proposed move makes sense because of Salem’s declining enrollment.

Larger school districts, such as Boardman and Austintown, are expected to join the Metro Athletic Conference. The Metro conference would need to know Salem’s choice by next spring.

Larcomb said the district will ask for public input in its January newsletter before the board makes a decision.
