Two men injured when car strikes house
WARREN -- Two men were injured after the car they were riding in slid through Oak Street and Austin Avenue and drove into the front of a house on Austin Avenue Southwest.
The car's driver, Brian Williamson, 23, of 580 Highland Avenue, Warren, was admitted to the intensive care unit at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital on Sunday after the accident.
A passenger in his car, Johnny Mitchell, age and address not available, was in stable condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, late Sunday afternoon.
A patrolman said he saw Williamson's car driving at a high rate of speed on Oak Street Southwest heading toward Austin at 11:46 a.m. The car slid through the intersection and drove into the front of the house at 717 Austin and a vehicle parked there.
Williamson fled from the vehicle after the accident and was arrested a short time later after jumping into the pond at Quimby Park, police said.
Police cited Williamson for wreckless operation, a stop sign violation and driving under suspension. Williamson also was wanted on a criminal warrant.
Firefighters responded to the accident and determined that the accident caused severe damage to the house and broke a natural gas line, which required that Dominion East Ohio Gas be called out to repair it.
