Children plan dinner to mark Merdich 50th

LEETONIA -- Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Merdich, 230 Walnut St., will celebrate 50 years of marriage during a private family dinner to be held in their honor Friday by their children.The couple will continue the celebration during a vacation trip to South Carolina.
The former Jeanette Gallo and Mr. Merdich were united in marriage Nov. 24, 1956, at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Church in Youngstown. They are members of St. Patrick Church.
The couple's family includes Chuck and Pam Merdich of Columbiana, Bill Merdich of Leetonia, and one grandson.
Mrs. Merdich was a secretary at Salem China Co. and at Kaiser Aluminum in Columbiana. She retired after 27 years as a secretary at Leetonia High School.
Mr. Merdich, who is known as Bill, is a Korean War veteran. He was employed at Youngstown Steel Door Co. and was a licensed barber. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Youngstown.
