Postgame thoughts - Ohio State 42, Michigan 39

On my way to Ohio State's postgame press conference, I overhead one reporter for a national publication suggest that, in a rematch on a neutral field, he'd pick Michigan to win handily. I don't necessarily agree with that assumption, but in many of these rematches, especially when the first game is so closely played, the losing team usually comes out on top in the rematch.

I don't agree that the game would be a rout simply because a Jim Tressel team doesn't get blown out. We've learned that from his 15 years at Youngstown State and his six ultra-successful years with the Buckeyes.

As an acknowledged "old-timer" I wouldn't want to see an OSU-Michigan rematch in Arizona, not because I think Michigan would win, but because it would diminish - even if just a little - the mesmerizing intensity of the annual regular season finales that these teams play.

That said, after watching these teams slug it out, I'm not sure there's another team in the country that could beat either one of them. There's still 2 more weeks of football to be played, and maybe if Florida runs the table in the SEC and is 12-1 I may change my mind.

But, right here, right now, I don't see 2 better teams in the country than the ones I just watched slug it out for 3-and-a-half hours.
