No. 1 Maryland 82, TCU 64
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Laura Harper scored a career-high 27 points, and No. 1 Maryland went to an 82-64 win against TCU in the first day of round-robin play at the BTI Classic. Shay Doron scored 22 points and Crystal Langhorne added 11 for Maryland (3-0). Kristi Toliver had 10 assists. Adrianna Ross led TCU (0-1) with 15 points. Harper scored six points during Maryland's 16-0 game-opening run. All five Maryland starters scored in the outburst which ended with a Harper layup at the 16:23 mark. The Horned Frogs answered Maryland's run with five quick points to cut the deficit to 16-5, but never got closer. The Frogs trailed by as many as 36 before finishing strong.
No. 2 North Carolina 90, Elon 36
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Ivory Latta had 21 points and Rashanda McCants 16 to lead North Carolina in the blowout of Elon. North Carolina (3-0) forced Elon (1-1) into 34 turnovers. North Carolina led 52-20 at the half and blew the game wide open with a 19-0 run early in the second half. Latta made five assists and three of the Tar Heels' 25 steals. North Carolina's Erlana Larkins had nine rebounds, seven steals and seven points. The Tar Heels held a 52-25 rebounding edge and limited Elon to nine offensive rebounds, one in the second half. Rachel Hester came off Elon's bench to hit three straight 3-pointers in the second half and finished with 11 points.
No. 6 Duke 71, Marist 50
DURHAM, N.C. -- Abby Waner and Carrem Gay scored 14 points apiece to lead No. 6 Duke over Marist. Alison Bales added 12 points, five rebounds and four blocks for the Blue Devils (2-0), who struggled with the Red Foxes early before pulling away in the second half. Meg Dahlman led Marist (1-1) with 12 points. Duke used a 12-2 run to build a 20-point advantage midway through the second half to take control after leading by 10 at halftime. The win was the Blue Devils' 300th at Cameron Indoor Stadium, where they have won their last 55 games against unranked opponents.
No. 12 Purdue 88, Washington 64
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Katie Gearlds scored 31 points and Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton had 13 points, eight rebounds and seven blocks to lead Purdue past Washington. Erin Lawless added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Boilermakers (4-0). Andrea Plouffe led Washington (0-2) with 16 points and Cameo Hicks added 13.
No. 17 Michigan St. 68, Bucknell 51
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Allyssa DeHaan scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds in her first collegiate game to lift Michigan State. The 6-foot-9 freshman was 7-for-14 from the field and blocked three shots for the 17th-ranked Spartans (1-0). Rene Haynes added 12 points, seven rebounds and six steals for Michigan State, which led 35-25 at halftime and quickly built the margin to 18. Victoria Lucas-Perry had nine points and eight rebounds for the Spartans. Transfer Mia Johnson had seven assists. Lindsey Hollobaugh led the Bison (2-2) with 12 points. Kesha Champion added 10 points and eight rebounds. Hope Foster, Bucknell's tallest player at 6-2, had 10 rebounds and a school-record 11 blocks.

MALIBU, Calif. -- Devanei Hampton had 19 points and nine rebounds to lead No. 18 California in the opening game of the Timeout for HIV/AIDS Tip-off Classic. Ashley Walker added 17 points and eight rebounds, while Alexis Gray-Lawson had 13 points for the Golden Bears (2-0). Marshae Dotson had 14 points and five rebounds for the Gators (1-2), while Sha Brooks added 11 points and four rebounds. The Bears led by 30 points, their biggest lead of the night, with 37 seconds left in the game.
South Dakota St. 67, No. 19 USC 63
BROOKINGS, S.D. -- Megan Vogel scored 22 points and South Dakota State forced 25 turnovers and beat No. 19 Southern California. The Jackrabbits (2-0) were supposed to be a convenient stop for the Women of Troy on their way to Sunday's matchup with No. 6 Ohio State. However, South Dakota State (2-0) forged a 15-point lead and held off a furious rally down the stretch. Jennifer Warkenthien and 13 points and Andrea Verdegan added 10 as the Jackrabbits posted their first win over a ranked team in three tries since moving to NCAA Division I. They are 27-16 against Division I opponents since moving up at the start of the 2004-05 season. Eshaya Murphy had four 3-pointers, 23 points and 14 rebounds for the Women of Troy (1-1). Chloe Kerr had 15 points and nine rebounds.

Coppin State 55, Youngstown State 42
BALTIMORE -- The Youngstown State women's basketball team fell to 0-2 at the Coppin Center. The Penguins, who shot just 33.3 percent from the field, committed 32 miscues and did not score for the first seven-and-a-half minutes of the second half, were led by freshman Anjalia Lyons with eight points and 12 rebounds while sophomores Monique Godfrey and Ashley Pendleton and junior Heather Karner also added eight points. In the first half, the Penguins shot just 30 percent and committed 15 turnovers which led to 10 Coppin State points. The Penguins found themselves in a quick deficit, 8-3, before they scored their first field goal, an eight-foot jumper by Ashley Pendleton, at the 15:27 mark. Another jumper by Pendleton cut the Eagles lead to 8-7 with 13:47 to go. A five-minute scoring drought and 10-0 run by Coppin State gave the Eagles an 11-point advantage midway through the first half. Two baskets by Ta-Myra Davis and one by Anjalia Lyons trimmed the deficit to 18-13 at the 7:30 mark. The Eagles closed out the half with a 12-8 run to take a seven-point lead into the lockerroom, 30-21. YSU returns home to host Buffalo on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
