Police chief seeks sheriff's help in probe

NEW WATERFORD -- Police Chief Dan Haueter will turn to Columbiana County Sheriff David Smith for help in a probe of "misappropriation of village property."
Mayor Sherry Felger said Tuesday that William Yereb, the village administrator, and Joe McCreary, his administrative assistant, were given unpaid suspensions after a 5-1 vote by council Monday night.
Felger said Haueter would seek help to avoid potential conflicts with investigating people with whom he works.
The mayor declined to elaborate about the property and how the alleged problem came to light.
Yereb has worked for the village for about 11/2 years, and McCreary has worked for the village for about 10 years.
The mayor said she and another village worker would maintain operations at village hall.
