Sabres 5, Flyers 4
PHILADELPHIA -- Daniel Briere scored on a slap shot 21 seconds into overtime to lift Buffalo over last-place Philadelphia. Briere, who had the tying goal with 2:59 left in the third period, sent the Sabres to their third straight overtime win and second in two nights. Randy Robitaille had two goals and Alex Picard and R.J. Umberger also scored for the Flyers, who lost their fifth straight game. Paul Gaustad, Jason Pominville and Drew Stafford also scored for Buffalo. The Sabres led 3-1 in the second before the Flyers scored three straight goals to take a 4-3 lead on Robitaille's second score at 11:29 of the third.
Maple Leafs 5, Canadiens 1
TORONTO -- Bryan McCabe scored two power-play goals and assisted on another to help Toronto win its season-high fourth straight game. Tomas Kaberle, Matt Stajan and Nik Antropov also scored for the Maple Leafs, who have won their last two games despite missing captain Mats Sundin (torn elbow ligament) and No. 1 goalie Andrew Raycroft (strained groin). Saku Koivu scored for the Canadiens, who have lost two of three to Toronto.
Capitals 3, Rangers 1
WASHINGTON -- Alex Ovechkin scored his team-high 11th goal and Boyd Gordon had a goal and an assist to help Washington win for the third time in four games. Matt Pettinger also scored for the Capitals, whose last four victories have come against teams that totaled 100 or more points last season. Michael Nylander had a goal for the Rangers, who snapped their four-game road winning streak. Washington goalie Olaf Kolzig stopped 41 shots and had his shutout bid end on Nylander's goal with 1:51 left.
Bruins 4, Senators 3
BOSTON -- Glen Murray scored two goals and Patrice Bergeron got the game-winner with 6:28 remaining to lead Boston. Petr Tenkrat also scored and P.J. Axelsson had two assists for Boston, which allowed fewer than five goals for the first time in five games. Ottawa fell to 1-5-1 in its last seven overall and against the Bruins. Chris Neil scored two goals, Jason Spezza had one and Peter Schaefer added two assists for Ottawa. Tim Thomas stopped 25 shots for Boston, and improved to is 4-1 with a 1.97 goals-against average in five games against Ottawa.
Devils 4, Panthers 2
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Patrik Elias and Zach Parise scored power-play goals in the first period to lead New Jersey. Sergei Brylin and Jamie Langenbrunner also scored to help the Devils break out of a collective scoring slump. Martin Brodeur made 18 saves for New Jersey, which has won four straight and six of the last seven. After going 2-for-29 with the man advantage in the previous five games, the Devils went 3-for-7 against the Panthers. Stephen Weiss and Chris Gratton scored for the Panthers who dropped their third in a row.
Lightning 5, Thrashers 3
TAMPA, Fla. -- Vincent Lecavalier scored a goal and Martin St. Louis had two assists to extend their points streaks to 11 games, helping Tampa Bay beat Atlanta. Ryan Craig, Dan Boyle, Brad Richards and Nikita Alexeev also scored for the Lightning, who are 4-0-1 in their last five games. Marian Hossa had two goals and an assist for Atlanta, and has 14 points during his seven-game points streak. The Thrashers have lost two in a row after a four-game winning streak.
Predators 1, Avalanche 0
NASHVILLE -- Chris Mason made a career-high 42 saves for his fourth career shutout and Scottie Upshall scored his second goal of the season to lead Nashville. Mason, Nashville's backup goalie, improved to 3-1 while was playing for just the fourth time this season. His previous high for saves in a game was 38, also against Colorado, on April 4, 2004. Nashville improved to 10-4-1, with seven victories -- including five of its last seven -- by a single goal. Jose Theodore made 30 saves for Colorado, which was shut out for the first time since a 2-0 loss at Calgary on April 13.
