Legislators to meet with YSU chief

YOUNGSTOWN — State legislators from the Mahoning Valley will meet with Youngstown State University President David Sweet to discuss consolidation legislation.

State Rep. John Boccieri of New Middletown, D-61st, announced the meeting, which will be at 10 a.m. today.

Boccieri said legislation will soon be introduced seeking to create a University of Northeast Ohio Study Commission. The commission’s job would be to make recommendations to the Legislature regarding consolidation and collaboration among five universities in Northeast Ohio: YSU, Kent, Cleveland State, Akron and the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine.

That legislation is expected to be attached to the State Capital Appropriations Bill that will pass in coming weeks, Boccieri said.
