WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania CareerLink Mercer County will have a Health Career Awareness Expo from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Radisson HoteL in West Middlesex. The event, cosponsored by the West Central Workforce Investment Board and held in conjunction with Health Career Awareness Week in Pennsylvania, Nov. 13-17, will have health care agencies and training providers available for preliminary interviews and applications for completion on site. AUSTINTOWN -- Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic's Austintown outpatient treatment center is celebrating its recent move to 5211 Mahoning Ave., Suite 370, with an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday. Smoke cessation
NILES -- St. Joe's at the Mall, located next to Sears in the Eastwood Mall, is offering a program, "Special Health Talk: So You Want to Quit!" in recognition of Great American Smokeout Day on Thursday. Terri Grimmett, a registered nurse, will speak on the subject from noon to 1 p.m. Lunch will be provided. National ranking
YOUNGSTOWN -- HM Home Health Services was recently ranked among the top 500 home health agencies in the country. The ranking is part of the HomeCare Elite 2006', a listing of top tier home health agencies in the United States, compiled by OSC, the nation's largest home care outcome data service.
The HomeCare Elite 2006' report uses publicly available data from Home Health Compare and CMS Cost Reports to review quality of care, quality improvement and financial performance data from the nation's 7,000 home health care agencies.
HM Home Care, HM Home Pharmacy, HM Home Medical Equipment and Hospice of the Valley offer comprehensive treatment plans for patients with diverse illnesses, hospital officials said.
Wound center
YOUNGSTOWN -- Humility of Mary Health Partners has opened a Wound Care Center on the St. Elizabeth Boardman Campus. This location, the fourth such center within HMHP, will be temporarily in the St. Elizabeth Wellness Center inside the Davis Family YMCA at 45 McClurg Road in Boardman. Initially, the center will be open every Thursday but will expand its hours once the St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center opens in 2007.
Health care decisions
ALLIANCE -- The Stark County Bar Association Elder Law Committee will offer a presentation, "Health Care Decisions," on Nov. 20 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Alliance Community Hospital in Conference Room 1-A. Topics will include Ohio law concerning living wills, durable power of attorney for health care, organ donation, plus other issues related to end of life decisions. Outreach effort
SHARON, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania CareerLink Mercer County, in conjunction with Mercer County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 55, is offering its 19th annual Veteran Outreach Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Sharon American Legion Post 299, 1395 E. State St. At the event, veterans service officers will assist veterans in applying for benefits and military related services. UPMC Horizon will provide free health screenings and general wellness information. Free blood sugar tests will be given until noon, but veterans must have fasted for at least three hours to received the test. Flu shot will be available to veterans with a Veterans Affairs identification or a copy of their DD214.
