Mount Union 45, Marietta 17
MARIETTA -- Justin Wray and Nate Kmic each ran for two touchdowns to help Mount Union clinch its 15th straight Ohio Conference title. Wray carried 19 times for 189 yards, scoring on runs of 14 and 27 yards, and Kmic ran for two 1-yard scores, finishing with 175 yards on 24 carries. Greg Micheli completed five of nine passes for 63 yards for Mount Union (10-0, 9-0). He threw a 9-yard scoring pass to Pierre Garcon in the first quarter. Jason Vrable threw for 173 yards for Marietta (6-4, 5-4), completing 12 of 33 passes with two interceptions, and found Garrett Banks on a 21-yard TD pass in the fourth. Banks also ran for a 15-yard score in the first.
Grove City 14, Merchant Marine 6
KINGS POINT, N.Y. -- The Grove City defense stopped halfback Cameron Amigo on third-and-goal from the 1 on the final play of the game, vaulting the Wolverines to the win. It is Grove City's (3-7) second straight victory to close the 2006 season. Kings Point (3-7) drove 78 yards to the Grove City 1. With 13 seconds left, Amigo slammed into the pile but was held out of the end zone by the interior of the Grove City defense. Out of time-outs, the Mariners could not execute another play. Grove City jumped out to a 7-0 lead with 10:21 left in the first quarter as senior split end Scott Fichter caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Andrew DiDonato. That capped a game-opening 11-play, 84-yard drive. DiDionato finished the game 10 of 21 for 11 yards. He also ran for 54 yards.
Carnegie Mellon 14, Thiel 7
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Carnegie Mellon concluded the regular season at 10-0. The Tartans came out strong on the opening possession of the contest, going 65 yards on 11 plays en route to a 1-yard touchdown run by fullback Travis Sivek. Sivek carried seven times on the drive for 31 yards. Sivek posted game highs in carries (40) and yards rushing (172). The score remained 7-0 until late in the third quarter when Tartan running back Robert Gimson scored on a 9-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 14-0. The Thiel offense, which was held to just 140 yards on 43 plays and went 1-of-11 on third downs, made it a game late in the fourth quarter on an 11-play, 70-yard drive that concluded with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Billy Blankenship to Marc LaScola. Thiel junior tailback Steve Minton became Thiel's all-time career leading rusher with his 66-yard ground performance.
Waynesburg 21, Westminster 9
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Ryan Abels rushed 27 times for 222 yards and scored two touchdowns to propel Waynesburg (6-4, 5-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference). The Titans took a 7-0 lead on a 1-yard run by Jason Nagy but Abels scored from the 4 to tie it 7-all at the break. After a scoreless third quarter, Danny Reed ran it in from 1 yard out for a 14-7 lead. Abels scored on a 50-yard sprint, giving his team a 21-7 lead with 5:25 to play. The Titans (2-8, 1-5) got a safety for the final score. Waynesburg won the game on the ground, rushing 52 times for 258 yards. The Titans were held to minus 9 yards on 19 carries. Abels finished his career with a school-record 3,985 yards. Titan QB Kevin Franz completed 25 of 37 attempts for 266 yards, but threw four interceptions and was sacked five times.
Wash. & amp; Jefferson 54, Bethany 0
BETHANY, W.Va. -- With 12 receptions, Bethany College senior wide receiver T.J. Parker (Fitch) broke the school's single-season reception record, but the rest of the day belonged to 22nd-ranked Washington & amp; Jefferson. The loss ended Bethany's most successful season since 2001 with a 4-6 overall record and a 2-4 mark in the PAC. W & amp;J (9-1, 6-0) clinched the conference title, their 19th in the last 23 years. Parker surpassed the record of 70 catches set by Denny Williams in 1980. Parker finished with 71 catches and nine touchdowns.
Malone 20, Walsh 10
CANTON -- Bernard Payton rushed for a career-high 277 yards as the Pioneers upset the Cavs, who were ranked 7th in the NAIA. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak against Walsh. The Cavs (9-2) won their first nine game this year. Malone is 6-3, 4-2 MSFA Mideast. Malone opened the scoring when Mike Clapham caught a 3-yard scoring pass from Brad Reifsnyder. Walsh tied it at 7 when Rayshaun Kiser returned an interception 53 yards. In the third quarter Walsh went on top when Mike Lum kicked a 32-yard field goal. Reifsnyder scored on a 1-yard run for a 14-10 lead. Payton scored a 49-yard touchdown with 1:48 to play.
St. Francis 21, Geneva 20
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- St. Francis (10-0) won its 51st straight regular season game while Geneva fell to 4-5, 2-4 Mid-States Football Association. With Geneva to top 20-14, St. Francis got the game-winner with 9:29 to play. Eric Hooks threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Brian Kurtz and Cale Grzych kicked his third conversion point.
West Chester 21, Slippery Rock 20
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- West Chester (8-3) took a 21-10 lead at the break then held off the Rock (7-4). Nate Crookshank completed 15 of 30 passes for 131 yards including two touchdown strikes for Slippery Rock. Brent Steinmetz ran 25 times for 98 yards for West Chester.
Wittenberg 35, Hiram 0
HIRAM -- Wittenberg (7-3, 6-1 North Coast Athletic Conference) got five rushing touchdowns and did all its scoring before the intermission. Murray scored on runs of 4, 11, 6 and 67 yards for Wittenberg. He finished with 14 runs for 175 yards. Wittenberg finished with more yards on the ground, 305-15. Hiram fell to 0-10, 0-7.
Allegheny 35, Oberlin 14
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Dallas Robinson scored three touchdowns to lead Allegheny (6-4, 4-3 NCAC). The first score was an 18-yard pass from Mario Tarquinio to Robinson. Robinson also scored on touchdown passes of 8 yards and 28 yards from Jimmy Savage, who completed 15 of 19 passes for 249 yards. Greg Mangan found Cassius Harris with a 6-yard pass in the second quarter and on a 35-yard pass to Chris Schubert in the third quarter for Oberlin (5-5, 4-3).
