Groundbreaking set for senior housing

HOWLAND -- Lutheran Housing Services of Howland will celebrate the groundbreaking for a new affordable housing community for senior adults today.
The Manor at Howland Glen will be located next to Shepherd of the Valley on North River Road.
The community will offer 50 one-bedroom apartments, a community room, library, arts and crafts studio and lounges. Rental assistance is available through the Department of Housing and Urban Development with qualifying residents paying 30 percent of their income in rent and utilities.
"The lack of adequate affordable housing continues to be a major issue facing senior adults and other individuals on fixed incomes," said Jody Glidewell, director of housing services for Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio. "Howland Glen is being built to provide more options for affordable housing to seniors in the Mahoning Valley area."
Lutheran Housing Services of Howland is a partnership of three health and human services agencies: Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio, Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Retirement Services Inc., and St. Luke Lutheran Community.
"Shepherd of the Valley is extremely pleased to be part of this new project," said Don Kacmar, Shepherd of the Valley executive director. "Through the receipt of federal HUD funding, along with the support of other federal funds through Trumbull County, we can offer seniors another quality choice in their retirement living."
