Police charge Youngstown man with trafficking in illegal drugs
BOARDMAN -- A Youngstown man was charged with several drug offenses after a traffic stop in which police found suspected crack cocaine and a narcotic pain reliever.
Don Williams Jr., 23, of West Ravenwood Avenue, was lodged in the Mahoning County Jail. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing July 18 in Mahoning County Court here.
Police stopped the car Williams was driving on South Avenue about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday because the car didn't have a front license plate or a rear license plate light.
While speaking with Williams, officers detected an odor of marijuana coming from the car and asked Williams and his passenger, a 13-year-old girl, to get out of the vehicle.
Police found a plastic bag of suspected crack cocaine between the driver's seat and door and a bottle containing generic Darvocet, a narcotic pain reliever, in the driver's side door.
After arresting Williams, officers found a plastic bag of suspected marijuana in his pants pocket.
Two black scales with white residue on them were found in the car's trunk, police said.
Williams was charged with trafficking in crack cocaine and trafficking in marijuana, both felonies, and misdemeanor counts of possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
