One man dies, four others injured when SUV rolls over in Newton Falls

The host of a local Sunday morning TV show was seriously injured.
NEWTON FALLS -- Wearing seat belts played a significant life-and-death role in a Memorial Day crash that killed one person and injured four others.
It was one of three serious accidents that resulted in two traffic fatalities over the weekend. Another motorist died Friday in Lordstown.
Tolbert Chism, 83, of Youngstown, was killed in a one-vehicle accident on state Route 5 in Newton Township on the Trumbull-Portage County line.
Chism is the father of Madonna Chism Pinkard, Sunday morning host of "Community Connection" on WFMJ TV-21, who was injured.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol at Southington said that Russell A. Pinkard, 38, of Cortland, Mrs. Pinkard's husband, was driving an SUV eastbound along Route 5 about 6:30 p.m. when the vehicle went left of center. Pinkard overcorrected and the vehicle overturned.
The patrol said Chism, a front-seat passenger who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected. He was pronounced dead at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Pinkard, 41, also wasn't wearing a seat belt and she too was ejected. She remains in serious condition in St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Two children in the back seat had their seat belts on. Faleasha Oliver, 6, of Warren, the Pinkards' cousin, and Josiah Pinkard, 4, of Cortland, their son, were released after treatment at TMH.
Motorcyclist dies
Earlier in the day, David Morris, 46, of Brookfield, was killed when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car on state Route 82 at Warner Road in Vienna.
The patrol reported that Morris was driving his cycle southbound on Warner shortly after 8 p.m., failed to yield at a stop sign at Route 82 and was struck by a car driven by Christina Guthrie, 19, of Hermitage, Pa.
Morris, the patrol said, was not wearing a helmet and was thrown off the cycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Guthrie suffered minor injuries and was treated at Sharon Regional Health System. A passenger in the car she was driving, Allcia Fabian, 20, of Sharon, Pa., was treated for minor injuries at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
On Sunday, William Pounds, 59, of Mineral Ridge, was injured while riding a motorcycle along state Route 88 in Vernon Township.
The patrol said Pounds was riding eastbound on Route 88 about 2:15 p.m. when he lost control and was thrown off. The patrol said he was in serious condition in St. Elizabeth's.
Friday fatality
On Friday night, Lordstown police said Jane F. Houtz, 56, of South Leavitt Road, Leavittsburg, was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth's after a one-vehicle accident earlier in the day.
Police said Houtz was driving an SUV along South Leavitt at Palmyra Road at 3:20 a.m. when the vehicle went off the road, struck a manhole cover, went into the ditch and rolled onto its roof.
Houtz managed to get hold of her cell phone, telling the highway patrol that she couldn't breath because the seat belt was cutting off her airway, police said.
When medics arrived, they got her out of the vehicle, gave her CPR and took her to the hospital. She died at 6 p.m. after her son arrived from California.
The coroner's office said Houtz was going home from work at the General Motors Corp.'s Lordstown complex when the accident occurred.k
