Man says he was shot outside convenience store

YOUNGSTOWN -- A man with two gunshot wounds in his back was in guarded condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center Tuesday night.
Police were called to a Himrod Avenue home and found Richard Helms, 42, in his mother's arms on the front porch, according to police.
Police said he was unable to speak and was taken to the hospital.
They went later to St. Elizabeth's to interview Helms, who said to them he had been shot while outside a drive-through convenience store, the report said.
He said a man asked if he were related to a recent murder victim. He answered yes and turned away, then was shot in the back, he told police. A passer-by gave him a ride home, he said.
The police report said an officer could find no evidence of a crime at the store.
