Temporary tags for dealerships to be available to order online

COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles will begin accepting online orders and payments for 30-day temporary tags using electronic checks from motor vehicle dealerships beginning Thursday.
This will not only save dealerships time and money, but will also allow for better service for the BMV-related portion of auto sales, the bureau said.
In the past, dealerships could either order temporary tags through the mail, delaying their inventory for two to three weeks, or through a prepaid account, from which they could draw when placing their order.
The prepaid account system saved the dealerships significant processing time, but it held dealership money that could have been used for other purposes. Instead, many dealerships sent employees to Columbus to pick up the tags, which cost the dealerships time and productivity.
The new electronic checks will allow dealers to place orders instantly and will usually be shipped the next business day.
Dealerships interested in placing and paying for orders online may access the Dealer Licensing Section's Web site at www.ohioautodealers.com and click on online services.
