MLB ROUNDUP \ Monday's other games
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Yankees 4, Tigers 0
DETROIT -- Randy Johnson didn't give up a hit for 5 2/3 innings and combined with two relievers for a two-hitter. Ivan Rodriguez broke up Johnson's bid for his third no-hitter -- and second against the Tigers -- with a single to right. After ending the sixth inning by striking out Magglio Ordonez, Johnson pumped his left hand as he walked off the mound -- likely feeling good about his first strong outing in more than a month. Johnny Damon and Derek Jeter drove in runs in the third. Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada had RBIs in the fifth to make it 4-0. Jeter injured his right hand and left the game. He jammed the hand in the third inning while sliding into second base. He was taken out for precautionary reasons, the Yankees said.
Blue Jays 7, Red Sox 6
TORONTO -- Pinch-hitter Shea Hillenbrand hit a go-ahead single in the eighth inning, and Toronto overcame a tying, three-run homer by Jason Varitek to beat Boston. Down 6-3 in the eighth, Varitek tied the game with a two-out homer off Justin Speier. Toronto's Bengie Molina doubled into the gap in right center leading off the bottom half of the inning against David Riske (0-1). After a sacrifice bunt, Hillenbrand singled past a drawn-in infield to give Toronto the lead.
Rangers 2, Mariners 0
ARLINGTON, Texas -- John Rheinecker allowed four hits in 8 1/3 innings in his second major league start and Mark Teixeira hit a two-run homer as Texas handed Seattle its fifth straight loss. The Mariners, shut out for a major league-high seventh time this season, got one runner as far as third base.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Cubs 7, Reds 3
CHICAGO -- Kerry Wood pitched six solid innings and hit a key RBI single to get his first win since July 15. Todd Walker hit a two-run homer and Matt Murton also homered for Chicago, which snapped a six-game losing streak and won for just the fifth time in 26 games. Making his third start since shoulder surgery last Aug. 31, Wood allowed two runs -- one earned -- and scattered nine hits. He struck out four and walked one. Adam Dunn hit a solo shot in the eighth inning for the Reds, who lost for the 15th time in 24 games.
Dodgers 12, Braves 5
ATLANTA -- Ramon Martinez hit a three-run homer and finished with five RBIs for Los Angeles, which scored seven runs in the first two innings, knocking John Thomson out of the game early. Thomson (2-4) recorded only four outs while giving up seven runs (five earned) and seven hits with three walks.
Cardinals 3, Astros 1
ST. LOUIS -- Albert Pujols hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning. Jason Marquis (7-4) allowed one run and three hits in seven innings for St. Louis. Jason Isringhausen worked the ninth for his 17th save.
Marlins 5, Giants 1
MIAMI -- Mike Jacobs hit a solo homer and Scott Olsen pitched seven innings for Florida. Barry Bonds went 1-for-4 with a single; a small, but mostly appreciative crowd stood and cheered when he stepped up to the plate for his first at-bat and again when he singled off Olsen in the fourth.
Phillies 11, Nationals 2
PHILADELPHIA -- Ryan Howard hit a tie-breaking three-run homer in the sixth inning. It was Howard's 13th homer in May and he has 33 RBIs in the month for the Phillies, who have won two straight. Clay Condrey (1-0) pitched four innings in relief of injured starter Jon Lieber to earn the win. Lieber left the game after suffering a left groin strain while fielding a ground ball in the top half of the inning.
