UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- Katie Smith scored 23 points, including a 3-pointer in the closing seconds of regulation to lead the Detroit Shock to the overtime win. Detroit (2-1) went on a 5-1 run in the final 15.3 seconds of regulation and then scored the first six points in overtime to pull away. Smith also had eight rebounds and a team-high eight assists. Cheryl Ford added 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Shock. Katie Douglas led the Sun (2-1) with 18 points and seven rebounds. Nykesha Sales added 17 points.
Mystics 90, Lynx 75
WASHINGTON -- Alana Beard scored 25 points, and Latasha Byears added 20 and keyed a big first-half run that gave Washington the lead for good. DeLisha Milton-Jones scored 12 points, and Nikki Teasley had 11 for the Mystics (2-1). Beard was 10-for-16 from the field, including 3-for-4 from 3-point range, and tied her season high in points -- two off her career high. The Mystics also dominated inside, outscoring Minnesota 46-26 in the paint despite giving up size to the taller Lynx. Seimone Augustus led the Lynx (0-3) with 23 points. Amber Jacobs chipped in with 13 points.
