Trustees to open bids for building addition

Trustees to open bidsfor building addition
NORTH LIMA -- Beaver Township trustees plan to meet at 3 p.m. Wednesday to open bids for the proposed addition to the township safety building.
Earlier this year trustees advertised for bids for the construction of a proposed 8,500-square-foot structure that essentially would expand the current fire building, along West South Range Road, on the building's east side. Officials said the project could cost up to $800,000 and they expect to use inheritance tax revenue to pay some of the expenses.
They said the fire department has outgrown the fire building and needs more space to accommodate equipment, vehicles and personnel. Ron Faniro, architect, said the new structure would allow the fire department to have easier access to fire gear and rescue equipment.

Safety-Service Director Jerry Lambert said Police Chief Frank Bigowsky wants to hire three patrol officers and a dispatcher, but the availability of money is uncertain.
The fire department is now at full strength, he added.
Trustee pulls plug on Harkins hearing
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township trustees won't be having a hearing, after all, on allegations Chairman John Vogel made against Richard Harkins, zoning commission chairman.
Trustees had voted Monday to go ahead with the hearing June 19 but allowed that if Vogel decided to pull the plug on the whole hearing, he could.
"I decided to pull the plug," Vogel said, adding he put the decision in writing to township attorney William Roux. "I was the accuser. I'm withdrawing the charge."
Vogel noted it would have cost the township money to hire a stenographer for a transcript of the meeting.
Vogel had contended Harkins engaged in an ongoing series of activities to undermine the agenda of trustees, and insubordination. Harkins has said a civil suit could be filed on his behalf.
