Police will display equipment during open house, awards event

BOARDMAN -- The police department will host an open house and awards ceremony beginning at 2 p.m. Friday at the government center, Market Street.
The public is invited.
A commissioner from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies will present a plaque recognizing the department's recent accreditation. The commissioner, Richard W. Holden, is traffic adviser to the North Carolina governor. He retired in 2004 as commander for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol after serving as its 21st colonel for more than five years.
He has more than 35 years of service with the patrol in several positions from trooper to colonel. The Carolina State Highway Patrol was accredited in 2000 during his command.
The K-9 memorial monument, which sits in front of the police department, will be dedicated. It was bought with money donated by the community to honor police dogs who have worked for the department.
Various pieces of equipment used by the department will be on display throughout the afternoon, and the public will be able to speak with officers assigned to the equipment.
Tours of the police department will be guided by police officers, and the North Boardman Neighborhood substation at 5000 Market St. will be open to the public during the event.
