Highlights included an All-American perfomance by junior Eric Belancic in the high jump finals. Belancic tied for seventh place with a height of 6-.75. Belancic also earned All-American honors in 2005 by taking sixth place in high jump at the indoor national meet. In preliminary action, the Raiders had two runners advance to the 100m finals today. Senior John Biacofsky ran a 10.76, while junior Nic Saluppo also qualified with a 10.88. Teammate Pierre Garcon ran a 10.89, just missing out on finals. Junior Justin Rodhe's All-American performance in the discus throw, placing fifth with a throw of 170-11. Rodhe has earned All-American honors three times in his college career. Other highlights included the 4x100 relay team of Nick Saluppo, John Biacofsky, Pierre Garcon, and James Cunningham, who posted the fastest time in preliminaries at 40.31. Biacofsky also qualified for the 200-meter dash finals by posting a time of 21.14 in the preliminaries. Jeremy Velliquette posted a time of 3:55.06 in the 1,500 meter dash preliminaries, while teammate James Cunningham finished with a 21.89 in the 200m dash prelims.
Thiel
Freshman Dorran Coley earned a spot in today's 110-meter hurdle finals. Coley ran a time of 14.76 and finished second in heat two of round one. His time was tied for sixth fastest in the event. Senior Kandiace Gibson a first-time national qualifier, placed sixth in her opening heat of the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 12.88. Gibson currently holds 11 Thiel track and field records (6 indoor, 5 outdoor) and earned the Most Outstanding Performer after the 2004 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She is a four-time PAC champion in the 200-meter dash, a three-time champion as a member of both the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay squads and a two-time champion in both the 100-meter and 400-meter dashes. Gibson and her teammates set conference records in both the 4x100-meter relay (49.40) and 4x400-meter relay (4:04.33) at this year's conference championships.
