GOLF ROUNDUP \ Saturday's other events

PGA
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Tim Herron has a chance to string together consecutive victories for the first time in his career. Tom Pernice has been working very hard, trying to position himself for his first win since 2001. With eight players within five strokes, Herron could only predict an exciting finish for the St. Jude Classic. "They have to come and get us," Herron said Saturday after shooting a 2-under 68 for a share of the third-round lead with Pernice. "It's going to be a horse race, an exciting tournament, so I hope everyone enjoys it and I hope I see you guys tomorrow." Coming off a playoff victory last week in the Colonial, Herron could join Phil Mickelson as the only back-to-back winners on tour this year. Herron's four titles all came when he held or shared the lead. Herron had a three-stroke lead to himself midway through the round with four birdies. But he struggled with two bogeys on the back nine, which allowed Pernice (68) to chase him down and match him at 7-under 203. That's the highest 54-hole total in relation to par at this event since 1986 when Larry Mize, Gary Koch, Mike Hulbert and Howard Twitty shared the lead at 5 under at Colonial Country Club.
LPGA
CORNING, N.Y. -- Even after shooting the low round of the day, Jeong Jang was surprised. "I think I'm leading," Jang said. Indeed, she was. Jang shot a 6-under 66 to take the third-round lead in the LPGA Corning Classic. She was at 15-under 201, three shots ahead of Brandie Burton (70), first-round co-leader Nancy Scranton (70), and Thai rookie Virada Nirapathpongporn (71), who began the day one shot ahead. Hee-Won Han (69) was another shot behind, and 2002 Corning champion Laura Diaz (67), rookie Morgan Pressel (68), and Kris Tamulis (69) were tied at 10-under 206. Meena Lee (70), who shared the first-round lead, was among five players at 207, and 1988 Corning champ Sherri Turner was in a group of four at 208.
