Car of off-duty police officer stolen in Columbiana

COLUMBIANA -- City police are seeking information about the theft of an off-duty police officer's car, which was recovered in Mahoning County.
Patrolman Tab Bailey said the car, which had weapons inside, was stolen from the Duke and Duchess convenience store on state Route 14 around 2:30 p.m. Friday.
A Mahoning County deputy sheriff located the car and the weapons around 6 p.m. in North Lima, Beaver Township. Bailey said police searched an apartment there for the suspected car thieves, fearing they may have the stolen weapons with them.
The apartment was empty, however.
Bailey said anyone with information is asked to call Columbiana police at (330) 482-9292. He said he hopes a woman who witnessed the theft of the car at the store would come forward. He said the woman left before police could interview her.
