Special election in Leetonia for library levy
LEETONIA -- Leetonia voters will have a chance to vote again on the community's proposed new library in a special election Aug. 8.
The filing deadline for the special election was Thursday. The issue was the only one filed in Columbiana County.
Library officials are asking again for a $1.45 million bond issue in the form of a 1.5-mill levy for 25 years. The district school board formally asked for the issue since the library is legally a school district library with the same boundaries as the school district.
The new facility would increase the amount of space for books and materials and would include a large meeting room for various groups that the village presently lacks. It would be built on the site of the former high school.
The final and official county by the elections board last week showed voters in the May 2 primary defeated the issue by 39 votes.
