Professional achievements: Dr. Figliano instituted the Centers for Hearing Care nursing home program in 1995, which allows several area nursing homes access to on-site and on-call audiological services. She negotiated a contract with General Motors' fabricating plant for more than 3,000 custom earplugs in an effort to promote hearing conservation. She also negotiated a contract with the International Union of Electrical Workers for audiological services in the 11 area Delphi Packard Electric plants. The Centers for Hearing Care organization has grown greatly since 1990 with Dr. Figliano's help. It began as two offices with two employees, and grew to seven offices with 17 employees. Dr. Figliano received the annual Community Builders' Outstanding Service to Our Community award from Youngstown Masonic Lodge, Hillman No. 481, Youngstown No. 615, and St. Albans No. 667. She is a member of the Boardman Rotary, where she was awarded the Vocational Service Award for outstanding service above self; and the Paul Harris Fellow as outstanding Rotarian of the Year. She has served on the Rotarian executive board as secretary, treasurer and vice president. In June, she will become the second female president in the 50-year history of Boardman Rotary.

Community service: Dr. Figliano participates in mission trips and has visited Mexico and Guatemala to help the hearing- and visually impaired in those countries. In the past seven years, she has traveled to Guatemala six times and to Mexico four times. She collected hearing aids, eyeglasses and medical supplies donated by local manufacturers and businesses such as General Motors plants in Lordstown and the Austintown Lions Club. After her return from Guatemala, Dr. Figliano spoke at local service organizations about the need for health care in Third World countries. In the past seven years she has raised $50,000 to buy more hearing aids and medical supplies for future trips.
