Pa. man faces charges in chase



POLAND -- A New Castle, Pa., man led police on a two-state car chase before crashing into another vehicle and running away on foot.
Pennsylvania State Police said they spotted a 22-year-old New Castle man speeding on U.S. Route 224 in Union Township at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
State police, along with Northwest Regional Police, chased him to the Ohio line where he was then pursued by Poland and Lowellville police.
Several charges are pending.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol Canfield post handled the crash that occurred at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday at Lowellville Road and Route 224.
Alfred Russo, 79, of Lowellville was southbound on Lowellvile Road, slowing for the stop sign, when his 1995 Saturn was struck, the patrol said.
The New Castle man was driving a 1995 Cavalier west on Route 224 and attempting to make a right turn onto Lowellville Road when he lost control and struck the Saturn, the patrol said. According to police, he ran into nearby woods and was chased on foot.
Russo and his passenger, Michelle Russo, 65, were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.
