German Singing Society names Youngstown man as historian



CINCINNATI -- Wolfgang Wengler of Youngstown was elected archivar/historian to the North American German Singing Society during a convention of delegates held May 19-21 at the at Kolpin Center.
Wengler has served as president of Youngstown Maennerchor German Singing Society for 12 years and as president of the Youngstown Maennerchor Choir for 25 years. He has served for over 30 years as an officer of the Ohio German Singing Society, six as president and currently as treasurer. He collects songbooks from song festivals of the Ohio Singing Society, the North American Singing Society and the Youngstown Maennerchor.
A retired painting contractor who immigrated from Frankfurt, Germany, in 1956, he has been the host WKTL 90.7 FM Struthers German Melodies program for 24 years. He and his wife, Helga, have three daughters and six grandchildren.
