SURVEY
ADHD drugs
ADHD drug risks: Side effects and accidental overdoses of attention-deficit drugs likely send 3,075 people to emergency rooms each year, according to a government survey.
Complications: Among the side effects were stroke; fast heart rate; chest, abdominal and muscle pain; and rashes and muscle spasms.
Significance: The survey is the first national estimate of problems with popular drugs such as Ritalin, Concerta and Adderall used by nearly 5 million American children and adults. Doctors have been debating whether the drugs need stronger warnings.
