YOUNGSTOWN -- A handgun that detectives have linked to the shooting deaths of Troy Barlow and Jaimie Helms Crum was turned over to police, Capt. Kenneth Centorame said Wednesday. Barlow and Crum, both 16, were found behind 1630 Park Vista Drive on Saturday evening, both shot in the head. Police believe Adrian Sims, 16, of West Marion Avenue, shot both victims. He remains in custody at the juvenile detention center. As of Wednesday, no charge had been filed against Devron Pinkard, 18, of Park Vista. Sims and Pinkard turned themselves in to police on Sunday to face murder charges. Pinkard remains jailed in an unrelated case.
Falsification charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- A falsification charge is filed against Allen Fairchild, 39, of Cameron Avenue, who police said used his younger brother's identification when arrested a week ago on drug charges during a traffic stop. The younger brother, Eric R. Fairchild, 29, of Forestridge Drive, Boardman, learned of the falsification after his name appeared in The Vindicator with a list of the charges. The arrest of Allen Fairchild took place around 2:50 p.m. last Thursday on West Chalmers Avenue. Police said they found a crack pipe and two OxyContin pills in the car.
City worker hit by caris listed as 'critical'
CORTLAND -- A city service worker was in critical condition Wednesday in St. Elizabeth Health Center after being hit by a car. John Phillips, 43, had just emerged from a city truck at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday to cut grass across from the Trumbull County Agricultural Building, 520 W. Main St., when a car driven by Marjorie Ford, 79, of Champion, hit the truck. Phillips was thrown onto the car's windshield by the impact, said Police Chief Gary Mink. Ford was not injured.
Sentenced in arson
YOUNGSTOWN -- A city man who injured himself while setting fire to a house is sentenced to one year in prison for arson. Mark A. Hausch, 21, of Covington Street, appeared Wednesday before Judge James C. Evans of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. Hausch was charged last August with setting fire to a rental house at 116 Tod Lane. Hausch was treated in Akron Children's Hospital burn unit.
Sports complex robbed
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Baseball Association on Gibson Street and Youngstown Sports Complex on Erie Street reported thefts Tuesday. A concession stand at the playground on Gibson was missing $500 worth of assorted candy, food, beverages, a microwave oven, deep fryer, hot dog machine and a space heater. The padlock may have been picked to gain entry, and locks on coolers, refrigerators and lockers were cut off, police said. A weed-whacker and gas blower were taken from the sports complex.
Charged in assault
YOUNGSTOWN -- The man police said made death threats at the Federal Plaza office of U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan on Monday is now charged with assaulting a security guard at the WRTA bus station. Clyde Triplett, 53, of East Wood Street, was arraigned Wednesday on an assault charge. He was released on his own recognizance. Police said Triplett was threatening to kill bus station employees Monday and tried to use his wheelchair to run over the security guard. An investigation by the FBI was launched Monday after Triplett made death threats at Ryan's office because he hadn't been reimbursed by Veterans Affairs for lights he installed on his wheelchair.
Man's death confirmed
LISBON -- The Mahoning County Coroner's Office confirmed the death Wednesday of Anthony D. Gulutz, 72, of Old Fredericktown Road, St. Clair Township. He died of injuries he suffered in a single-car accident early Monday on Old Fredericktown Road. He had been flown by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown, where he died Tuesday.
Commissioners to mull revenue bonds' approval
MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer County commissioners will consider approving $1.8 million in industrial development revenue bonds for expansion of a local medical office today. Primary Health Network has applied for the bonds to finance the acquisition and renovation of three properties at 350 Sharon-New Castle Road, Farrell, an office building at 121-23 East State St., Sharon, and a medical office building at 3339 Perry Highway, Sheakleyville. By approving the bonds, commissioners lend their tax-exempt status to a private business in order to encourage economic development.
