Allen, incumbent Robbins to vie for state Senate seat

SHARON, Pa. -- It's official: Art Allen will take on incumbent Republican state Sen. Robert D. Robbins in the fall for the 50th District seat.Allen's primary election opponent, Charles "Chaz" Rice, officially conceded Wednesday afternoon at the Sharon City Building.
"Now that it's done, it's done. We want change. We need change in Harrisburg," Rice said of the election.
Rice said he waited more than a week after the Democratic Primary to concede on the advice of those in his campaign.
"When you have a race this close, we needed to find out what we needed to do," he said.
Allen won the Democratic nomination for the seat by slightly more than 60 votes. The district includes Mercer, Crawford, Butler and Lawrence counties. Robbins has held the seat since 1991.
Rice urged his supporters to now back Allen.
"If there's ever a chance to get a Democrat in the 50th senatorial seat, it will be this year," he said.
Allen called this past primary election a wake-up call for all incumbents.
"Around this state there are incumbents who will not have a spot on this November's ballot. What it tells me is people are ready for a change," Allen said.
