Mystics 95, Liberty 60
WASHINGTON -- Alana Beard scored 25 points as Washington beat New York, tying a franchise record for largest margin of victory. Beard also had four steals in just 24 minutes. Forward Delisha Milton-Jones added 12 points for the Mystics (1-0). Guard Shameka Christon led the Liberty (0-2) with 18 points. Forward Catharine Kraateveld added 12 and guard Sherill Baker chipped in with 10.
Sparks 72, Sting 65
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Jessica Moore's driving layup with 43 seconds left put Los Angeles in front, and the Sparks scored the last seven points to get their first win of the season. The Sting rallied from an 11-point deficit, tying the game on rookie Monique Currie's steal and layup with 56 seconds left. But Moore's transition hoop on the next possession put the Sparks ahead 67-65. The Sting missed three shots, committed a turnover and lost a jump ball in the final minute. Lisa Leslie had 27 points and 16 rebounds, but fouled out with 2:02 left when the Sparks (1-1) had a five-point lead. Currie had 19 points for the Sting (0-2).
Monarchs 76, Sky 63
CHICAGO -- Nicole Powell scored 19 points and the defending WNBA champion Monarchs spoiled the expansion Sky's home opener. Powell was 8-of-13 from the field and converted a 3-pointer that made it a 10-point game with 3:45 left. Rebekkah Brunson finished with 13 points and seven rebounds for Sacramento (2-0). Ticha Penicheiro added 10 points, and Yolanda Griffith grabbed nine rebounds. Chicago's Stacey Lovelace-Tolbert scored all of her team-high 11 points in the second quarter.
Fever 62, Silver Stars 53
SAN ANTONIO -- Tamika Catchings scored 23 points and Tamika Whitmore added 16 to lead the Fever to the road win. San Antonio (1-1) has lost its home opener three straight seasons. Vickie Johnson scored 12 points for San Antonio.
