33 bouts on tap Thursday in 19th K.O. Drugs tourney



All winners will advance to compete for a championship belt at Struthers.

STRUTHERS -- The 19th K.O. Drugs boxing tournament will continue Thursday with 33 area schools represented in 33 bouts.
Twenty-one are upperclass division encounters; nine will be underclass division bouts and three are scheduled in the female division.
All action begins at 7 p.m. at the Struthers Field House.
"Every winner [Thursday] will fight for a championship belt," said Chuck Nelson, the tournament founder and director.
"It doesn't get any better than this. The most competitive fights are yet to come," he added.
Unbeaten fighters
Putting their 2-0 marks on the line in the upperclass division will be Jeremy Keffer (Boardman), who will take on Chevar Mitchell (1-1) of Liberty, and Leo Rouan (Champion), who will meet Bryan Chaidez (1-1) of Chaney in a pair of super welterweight bouts.
Justin Harris (Brookfield) and Dustin Randolph (East Liverpool) are both 2-0 and will take on Ray Murray (1-1) of Life Skills and Ron Harris (1-1) of Campbell Memorial, respectively, in middleweight action.
Bryan Pegues (Ursuline) and Mark Mehley (Struthers) risk their 2-0 marks in the super middleweight bouts against Terry Kohlmetz (1-1) of Keystone and Derek Hedrick (1-1) of East Liverpool, respectively. Mike Duponty (Struthers) and Dustin Berresford (United), both 2-0, in super cruiserweights, meet Travis Smith (1-1) of Salem and Robbie Porter (1-1) of Niles McKinley.
Also, Sean Mostov of Girard will take on Dan Anness (1-1) of Struthers in a heavyweight bout, while in super heavyweight action, Caleb Croul (Lisbon) meets Anthony Tosca (1-1) of Poland.
Female bouts
In Female Division action, Stephanie Sahli, the reigning K.O. Drugs and Tri-County champion, is the only undefeated fighter with two victories and has advanced to the championship round next week, while underclass action Thursday will pit Nick Elmo (2-0) of Boardman against Justin Chabek of Newton Falls in junior middleweight action.
Championship action will conclude next week in the upperclass and female divisions on Thursday, and in both the female and underclass division Friday.
Already advancing to upperclass title bouts are featherweight Ramon Judkins (Austintown Fitch, 1-0), lightweight Jimmy Nelson (East Liverpool, 2-0), super lightweight Chris Manno (Girard, 2-0), junior welterweight Cody Leek (Howland, 2-0), welterweight Geno Clayton (Boardman, 2-0), heavyweight Jarrod Reynolds (Liberty, 2-0) and Robert Randall (Girard, 2-0) in the super heavyweight class.
Already in the finals
Those with 2-0 marks who already have advanced to the underclass championships next Friday include featherweight Chris Lorimer (Boardman), lightweight Alessandro Cutrona (Canfield), welterweight Colby Clayton (Boardman), junior middleweight Andrew Fricker (Girard), super middleweights Josh Hertel (Columbiana) and Mike Peters (Mercer), who will square off against each other, light heavyweight Chris Nicopolis (Champion), cruiserweight Dave Nehlen (Brookfield) and super cruiserweights Eric Ocheltree (Mathews) and Keith Nunez (Campbell Memorial), who also meet.
