New Castle officials prepare to fix fountain damaged in truck accident

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- City officials have already started the process of replacing the fountain in the city's Kennedy Square that was crushed by a tree service truck over the weekend.
Mayor Wayne Alexander said Monday that they were working on a request for proposals to have the site repaired and the fountain replaced.
The fountain was crushed at 1:15 p.m. Sunday when a tree service truck lost its brakes as it was traveling east on West Washington Street. The bucket truck and attached wood chipper crashed through stone pillars and over the fountain before stopping. No one was injured.
A police report on the crash was not available Monday.
Alexander said the truck was owned by Robinson Tree Service, but he had no details on the driver.
Alexander, who went to the scene after the crash, said the truck's inspection sticker was 3 years old and it's unclear if the driver had automobile insurance.
The mayor said the city took possession of the truck and wood chipper as part of the investigation and they may use the equipment to pay for the damage if the company or driver have no insurance.
City workers were still cleaning the site on Monday and assessing the damage.
