Boardman orchestras to present festival
BOARDMAN -- The Boardman High School Symphony, Chamber and Classical orchestras will present their annual Spring Orchestra Festival at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Boardman Performing Arts Center.
The 108-member classical orchestra, awarded an excellent rating at a national competition in Myrtle Beach, S.C., in April, will open the concert with performances of their contest pieces.
The 40-member chamber orchestra, featuring the top string players in the BHS Orchestra program, and recipients of a superior rating and first place trophy at nationals, will perform next.
The 136-member symphony orchestra, also rated superior at nationals and winner of the first-place trophy, will finish the evening. The combined symphony, chamber and classical orchestras were winners of the Grand National Champion Trophy for all instrumental groups this year.
Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students. Preschoolers and senior citizens are admitted for free. The Boardman orchestra program is under the direction of Frank Dispenza, Michele Vari and Ron Ryan.
