OVERWEIGHT KIDS
How to help
Families can help overweight children by providing healthful food choices and physical activity opportunities. Specific tips include:
Limit the amount of sugary snacks and drinks and increase offerings of fruits, vegetables and grains.
Offer water, milk and limited amounts of 100 percent juice instead of sweet beverages.
Choose to feed your infant only breast milk for the first 6 months and continue breast-feeding until at least 1 year of age.
Be a role model. Turn off the TV, computer and video games and go for a bike ride, throw a ball or take a family walk.
Restrict children's screen time, including computer/video games, to no more than two hours a day.
