Australian Tatnell can't overtake Haudenschild

The drivers put on a good show battling for the lead in a 40-lap A-main event.
HARTFORD -- Jac Haudenschild held off a late charge by Brooke Tatnell, and grabbed the checkered flag in the World of Outlaws Sprint Series 40-lap A-main event on the 3/8-mile oval at Sharon Speedway Saturday night.
Brooke Tatnell, of San Souci, New South Wales, Australia, was the quickest man in qualifying. Tatnell lapped the 3/8-mile oval in 12.954 seconds. Terry McCarl, Craig Dollansky, Daryn Pittman and Jac Haudenschild were the remaining drivers in the top five of the qualifying.
Heat winners
Ed Lynch, Jr., Joey Saldana, Donny Schatz and Bill Rose were the winners in the 8-lap heat races. With Schatz winning the second heat race, he became eligible to choose if he wanted to race for a $50,000 bonus in the 40-lap A-main.
Schatz was sent to 24th in the A-main.
Haudenschild won the 10-lap dash to earn the pole position for the 40-lap A-main. Brooke Tatnell earned the second starting spot with a second place finish in the dash. Daryn Pittman finished third and Dale Blaney took the checkered flag in fourth.
Tatnell got the early jump on the field, building a six-car lead over Jeremy Campbell.
Tatnell built his lead to nearly a straightaway by the sixth lap.
Schatz moved into 12th on lap four, but his charge to the front was halted when he clipped Jason Martin's car as he battled for ninth. Schatz spun in the middle of the backstretch to bring out the caution flag. Dale Blaney relinquished fifth spot under the caution flag after a flat tire.
The restart
On the restart, Tatnell used lapped traffic to his advantage, and took nearly a straightaway lead over Campbell in second. After a caution on lap 22, Tatnell regained his lead, but the battle for second heated up. Jac Haudenschild used a slide-job on Campbell to take second exiting turn two. Two laps later, Haudenschild dipped to the low-side of turn four to take the lead away from Tatnell for the first time in the race. Haudenschild pulled away as his lead built to nearly one straightaway.
With only seven laps remaining, Haudenschild's lead was just over a car length. Tatnell remained on the rear bumper for the last seven laps. These two Mean 15 drivers put on a good show as they battled for the lead. With two laps remaining, Tatnell looked to the low-side of Haudenschild for the lead out of turn four. Despite Tatnell's challenge, Haudenschild edged Tatnell by .130 sec. to take the checkered flag. Following Tatnell in second, Randy Hannagan drove from eighth starting spot to finish third. Jeremy Campbell was fourth, with Daryn Pittman rounding out the top five.
