Jaguar cubs on display

Nayla and Caipora now weigh 68 and 52 pounds respectively. The cubs will remain at the Akron Zoo through the fall. When the cubs reach a year old, the Jaguar Species Survival Plan will make recommendations to relocate the cubs to another accredited zoo. The Jaguar SSP is a captive breeding program sponsored by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
Maya, the cub that was hand-raised at the zoo, was transferred last month to the San Antonio Zoo to be paired with a male jaguar that had been hand-raised.
Jaguars are listed as an endangered species by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
