Smreks observe 50th anniversary at Mass, reception

XBOARDMAN -- Mr. and Mrs. Edward Smrek, 880 Afton Ave., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 23 by attending a Mass at St. Luke Church, where they are members.
Afterward they were the honored guests at a family reception at the Holiday Inn.
Invitations for the reception were issued by the couple's children, Ronald Smrek of Poland, Rose Knight of Liberty, Ruth Balestra of Canfield, and Richard and Randall Smrek, both of Boardman. The family includes 10 grandchildren.
St. Cyril and Methodius Church in Youngstown was the setting April 21, 1956, as the former Rita Walihnac and Mr. Smrek were united in marriage.
Mr. Smrek served with the U.S. Air Force and was employed as a chemical processor with Warren Consolidated Industries prior to retiring in 1997. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus.
