Center plans to rehire 2
BOARDMAN -- The Mahoning County Educational Service Center expects to save $36,000 a year by rehiring two employees who are retiring this year. Superintendent Rich Denamen said Elaine Gamberale, work study coordinator, and Catherine Sanor, director of technology, are both retiring.
The plan is to bring them back at a reduced cost as the ESC will no longer have to pay their health benefits, Denamen said, estimating the total annual savings at $36,000. State law requires the ESC governing board to have a public hearing on the plan, and that is set for 4 p.m. June 20 in the board room at 100 DeBartolo Place, Suite 105.
Driver arrested
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police said a traffic stop of a car whose driver committed a number of traffic violations resulted in the arrest of the driver on drug charges.
Police said the car driven by Eric R. Fairchild, 29, of Forestridge Drive, Boardman, was spotted around 2:50 p.m. Thursday making several turns on Edwards Street and Cleveland and Overland avenues without signaling, and officers followed the car to a house in the 500 block of West Chalmers Avenue. Fairchild failed to produce a driver's license and, while officers spoke with him, a passenger in the car tossed a small plastic bag out of the window, prompting a search of the vehicle, police said.
They found a crack pipe and two OxyContin pills and charged Fairchild with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned Friday and ordered held on $3,500 bond pending a preliminary hearing at 11 a.m. May 31.
