MVHS awards honor preservation



YOUNGSTOWN -- Winners of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society 2006 Historical Preservation Awards will be honored at the MVHS 131st annual meeting June 20 at the McKinley National Memorial and Library in Niles.
The awards will honor those in the Mahoning Valley who took an active role in preserving historic buildings, sites and districts. The awards honor the project as well as the people involved in preserving the building.
The Community Revitalization Award recipients are:
Kinsman House and adjacent property in Warren, nominated by Heather McMahon.
The Great Depression era structures at the Kirk Road Trailhead/MetroParks Bike Trail in Austintown, nominated by Ronald Cornel Faniro Architects.
Youngstown Water Works Building in Youngstown, nominated by D. Duke Slater.
The MVHS Trustees Award of Achievement will go for the restoration of the 1920 bronze Volney Rogers Memorial Statue in Youngstown and was nominated by Carol Potter.
The Community Revitalization Award recognizes public or government buildings that serve the public at large.
The MVHS Trustees Award of Achievement honors structures that do not fit into the above category, but were revitalized using the correct preservation guidelines.
