Musical celebration
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- "Come, Christians, Join to Sing -- A Musical Celebration" is planned at 7 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 125 N. Jefferson St. The program will include sacred, gospel and contemporary Christian music and will be directed by Steve Pridon. Performers will be the Celebration Ringers and Singers, Edelweiss woodwind quintet, violinist Calvin Lewis, guitarists Dan Natale and Terry Unangst, soloists Dr. Raymond Hylton and Judith Hylton and percussionist David Mikesell. A free-will donation will benefit the City Rescue Mission. A dessert reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
Fund-raising party
MINERAL RIDGE -- First Presbyterian Church of Mineral Ridge, 3654 N. Main St., will have a birthday party at 9:15 a.m. Sunday for Montana de Luz, a home for children with HIV/AIDS in Honduras. Gifts are being collected to send to the children, who range in age from 3 to teenagers. Wrapping the gifts will be part of the party activities. Suggested items are books in Spanish, crayons, coloring books, soccer balls, craft supplies, games, clothes (not heavy winter), underwear, socks, tennis shoes, backpacks for school, insulated lunch boxes, cloth diapers, plastic pants and lactose-free infant formula. The service will be the last day of church school until September.
Drive-in service
ANDOVER -- First United Methodist Church, 181 S. Main St., will sponsor drive-in outdoor services May 28-Sept. 3. The services, scheduled for 9:30 a.m., will be held at Wildwood Acres Campground, state Route 7 and Marvin Road. Special music will include Dan Schall on July 2 and God's Quad, Aug. 13. The services are geared to campers but anyone may attend.
Spring revival
YOUNGSTOWN -- Jerusalem Baptist Church, 2003 Wilson Ave., will have a spring revival at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday featuring Pastor Isaac Wiggins of Progressive Baptist Church in Warren.
Rogation Days
BOARDMAN -- St. James Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave., will have its annual pet blessing at 5 p.m. Sunday. All animals are welcome and must be under the owner's control or caged. The event marks Rogation Days, which are highlighted by prayers for a fruitful season and for the stewardship of creation.
'Left Behind' showing
AUSTINTOWN -- Austintown Baptist Church, 1180 S. Raccoon Road, will show the movie "Left Behind The Tribulation Force" at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The movie is free, and fellowship will follow.
Testimony night
CANFIELD -- Paul and Dorothy Smith of Victory Church in Coitsville will share their ministry during testimony night at 7 p.m. Monday at Lifecare Ministry Center, Lucille Orr Ministries Inc., 5357 Raccoon Road. In a previous announcement for the Pray for Youngstown program, which will be Tuesday, an incorrect address was provided for the center.
Visitors' Sunday
EAST PALESTINE -- Grace Lutheran Church, corner of Grant and Walnut streets, will have Visitors' Sunday this weekend. Sunday school for adults and children will be at 9:30 a.m. followed by worship at 10:45 with a children's sermon and music. There will be a fellowship hour.
First sermon
STRUTHERS -- Selena McJunkins-Carter will present her first sermon during a service at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church, 97 W. Washington St., where her husband, the Rev. Anthony L. Carter, is pastor. They relocated here from Cleveland.
She has taken courses at Cuyahoga Community College and is majoring in English at Youngstown State University. At St. John, she is church secretary, stewardess, Christian education department director, coordinator of youth Bible study, secretary of the Women's Missionary Society and director of lay activities and chaplain of the lay organization. She is a member of the senior choir and founding member of the Contemporary Choir. McJunkins-Carter serves as the Area 2 director of the Young People's and Children's Division of the Women's Missionary Society and is a member of the North Ohio Conference Ministers Spouses, Widows and Widowers Organization.
Spiritual society
CANFIELD -- Youngstown Spiritual Society will have a meditation service from 10 to 11 a.m. Sunday at the Ursuline Center, 4300 Shields Road. Vince Lisi will present "Salvation is Not Theoretical," followed by mediation and shared prayer.
First anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN -- Bread of Life Church of God in Christ, 25 Ridge St., will mark its first anniversary during a service at 5 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Kevin Beal of Community Lighthouse C.O.G.I.C. of Cleveland as guest speaker. The celebration will continue at 5 p.m. May 28 when the Rev. Clarence Jackson of Greater Holy Trinity C.O.G.I.C. will speak.
Outdoor concert
CANFIELD -- Christian Life Church, 6101 S. Raccoon Road, will have an outdoor Christian band concert at 7 p.m. May 28 featuring the Eleventh Hour, Never Die Wondering and C.L.C. Praise Band. Art Katz will speak on "End Times" at 7 p.m. next Saturday and 4:30 p.m. May 28.
'Blessing of Beasts'
SHARON -- A Blessing of the Beasts is planned at 4 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church parking lot, 237 W. Silver St. Pets of all kinds are welcome.

First sermon
YOUNGSTOWN -- Felicia Cotton will preach her initial sermon at the 11 a.m. service Sunday at Bridging Of The Spirit Christian Center, 3024 Myron Ave., where the Rev. Calvin Penny is pastor. Cotton will be licensed as a minister and she is studying with the Rev. Mr. Penny. At the center, she is a Sunday school teacher and member of the praise and worship team. She and her husband, James, live in Campbell and have two children.
