Kagarise's performances help Falcons win crown
AUSTINTOWN -- Adam Kagarise of Fitch High won the 400-meter dash and anchored the Falcons' 4x400 relay, helping the Falcons to the boys team championship at the Division I district track and field meet Friday.
Fitch scored 113 points, while Warren Harding (90) finished second and Boardman (731/2) was third.
Kagarise won the 400 in 49.2 seconds, and was joined on the 4x400 relay (3:29.0) by Jason Anderson, Joe Hammond and Tim Koniowsky.
Also for Fitch, Ross Lenehan won the 3200 (9:45.8).
Warren Harding's J'Abneb Provitt won the 100 (10.9) and 200 (22.4), and anchored the Raiders' winning 4x200 relay (1:29.9), which also included Christopher Rucker, Daniel Herron and Joseph Threats. Provitt was also on Harding's 4x100 relay, which won in 43.7. Also on the relay were Herron, Rucker and anchor Darren Lee.
Other event winners from the area were Bryan Albani of Howland in the 110 hurdles (14.8), and Boardman's Matt Moore in the 800 (2:00.7) and Brandon Rader in the shot put (52 feet, 11 inches).
Girls competition
In the girls competition, Twinsburg won the team title with 110 points, edging Boardman (104). Canfield finished in third with 86 points.
Breanne Romeo of Boardman won the 400 (59.6) and was on the Spartans' winning 4x400 relay (4:08.3). She was joined by Tricia Haff, Sarah Navarro and Corey Carter.
Other area winners were Amber Ferraro of Poland in the 100 hurdles (15.8), Latalia Jones of Chaney in the 100 (12.07), Nicole Pachol of Howland in the 300 hurdles (46.5), Sarah Anderson of Poland in the 800 (2:21.15), Alexis Hall of Fitch in the discus (132-0), Audra Frimpong of Canfield in the long jump (17-43/4) and Carrie Mavrikis of Boardman in the pole vault (8-6).
