HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY Ethel Santo



Born: May 25, 1906, in the Brier Hill section of Youngstown.Parents: Thomas and Rose Tolone. They had five children; she is the only one still living.
Married: John Santo in 1925; he is deceased.
Children: Rosemary Stark and Betty Lou Shilling, who are deceased.
Grandchildren: One granddaughter, Karen Mascioli who, with her husband, Frank, will be hosting a birthday party in her honor today.
Memberships: A devout Catholic and long-time member of St. Rose Church of Girard, where she made pizza for 23 years and has been a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society. She attributes her long life to her faith.
Hobbies: Noted for her culinary skills, baking, sewing and crocheting. Although legally blind, she still crochets lap robes for health-care facilities.
Personal traits: Her favorite expression is, "I'm thankful to God that I still have all my marbles." She not only remembers the past in detail but keeps up with the daily news.
Honors: She recently received a certificate from Gov. Bob Taft in recognition of her many years of voting.
Celebration: Her birthday party is being held at 3 p.m. today in the community room of the North View High Rise in Girard, where she has been a resident since the facility was built 33 years ago and is the only remaining original tenant.
