Defensive driving course for young drivers
BOARDMAN -- The National Safety Council, Northern Ohio Chapter is sponsoring a free defensive driving course for young drivers 16 to 25, 5-9 p.m. June 12 at the Home Builders/Remodelers Association, 8526 South Ave.
Safety council officials said the course is designed to improve driving awareness and encourage young drivers to change driving habits that could prove fatal.
They said for drivers 16 to 25, inexperience, peer pressure and distractions cause unique driving hazards, but as a driver or passenger, young people can greatly reduce their risks by taking control. Officials said instructors use personal examples and humor to get their point across.
The class consists of workbook exercises, interactive media segments, group discussions, role playing and short lectures to help young drivers develop convictions and strategies that will keep them safer on the road.
Participants must register in advance of the course by calling the safety council at (330) 747-8657 because space is limited.
