CANFIELD -- The American Cancer Society's Look Good Feel Better program for women undergoing cancer treatment is offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the ACS office, 525 North Broad St. (state Route 46).
Under the program, a trained and licensed cosmetologist teaches women about makeup and hair and skin care, said Al Stabilito, Northeast Ohio Public Relations director for ACS.
Also, each participant receives a free makeup kit with cosmetics and beauty supplies valued at $250.

Local pharmacist honored
CANFIELD -- Pharmacist Leonard S. Holman Jr. is the 2006 recipient of the Bowl of Hygeia Award presented by the Ohio Pharmacists Association at its 128th Annual Conference in Columbus.
The annual award honors pharmacists who have contributed to the progress of their community.
Holman earned his pharmacy degree in 1975 from Ohio Northern University and is president and chief executive officer of Option Care of Northeast Ohio in Canfield.
Holman, a member of numerous professional organizations, is also active in the local community. He was a board member of the Lake to River Healthcare Coalition and is a manager/coach for Boardman's Community Baseball Program and YMCA Youth Basketball. He has served as the president and vice president of the Youngstown District Football Officials Association and as the president of the Mahoning Valley Basketball Association, officiating at the high-school level for the past 33 years.
He lives in Boardman with his wife, Kathy, also an ONU pharmacy graduate, and three children, Holly, James and David.

Health-care seminar
COLUMBIANA -- East Liverpool City Hospital's Education Department is sponsoring a one-day health-care seminar that will cover a multitude of topics of interest to medical professionals and students.
The seminar, "Making Strides Together in Healthcare," will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 7 at the Dutch Village Inn here.
Six contact hours will be given for nurses, while social workers, counselors and physical and occupational therapists will each receive five contact hours.
Participants must attend the entire program and submit a completed evaluation to receive the continuing education credit.
Jameson CEO gets award
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Thomas White, president and chief executive officer of Jameson Health System, received the 2006 Graduate School of Public Health (GSPH) Distinguished Alumni Award.
The award is presented annually to GSPH graduates who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to the field of public health or to GSPH.
He joins a group of about 45 GSPH alumni who have received this award during the past 20 years.
White has served as president and pas president of the GSPH Alumni Association. He holds a master of science degree in health care administration from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health and an undergraduate degree from Youngstown State University in business administration.
Jameson in cancer study
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Jameson Hospital participated in the National Colorectal Cancer Action Campaign Screen for Life study, a national colorectal cancer education program study.
The Lawrence County Cancer Coalition, led by Janice Alberico of the Lawrence County Cooperative Extension and Mike Matis, completed this study.
This study helps document the positive potential impact of local cancer coalitions in national education campaigns.
Screen for Life, a National Colorectal Cancer Action Campaign, is a multimedia campaign that informs men and women aged 50 and older about the importance of colorectal cancer screening.
Colorectal cancer is the second most common cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, officials said.
Karlock lectures at event
AUSTINTOWN -- Dr. Larry G. Karlock, a podiatrist with Austintown Podiatry Associates, was guest lecturer at the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons annual meeting, which was attended by 1,400 foot and ankle surgeons from across the country.
Dr. Karlock, certified in foot and ankle reconstructive surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, has had several articles on foot and ankle surgery topics published.
UPMC Horizon Book Club
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon's Book Club and Coffee Group will discuss "Positive Energy" by Dr. Judith Orloff for four weeks beginning June 5.
The group meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
There is no fee to participate except the cost of the book, which can be purchased at a discount at the Womancare Center, 875 N. Hermitage Road.

UPMC nurses recognized
FARRELL/GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Fifteen UPMC Horizon nurses were recognized in May at the eighth annual Excellence in Practice Awards ceremony as part of the hospital's observance of National Nurses Week.
Nurses who received the Excellence in Practice Award are eligible to compete for the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing Cameos of Caring Award given in October.
