Philanthropists to be honored



YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning/Shenango Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals is seeking nominations for outstanding philanthropists to be honored at the 16th annual National Philanthropy Day luncheon Nov. 14 at the Holiday Inn MetroPlex in Liberty.
Nominations are being accepted in these categories: outstanding individual (or family) philanthropist, outstanding corporate philanthropist, outstanding small-business philanthropist, outstanding volunteer fundraiser, outstanding civic organization, outstanding young philanthropist, and Legacy Award.
Nominees must be residents of Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties in Ohio, or Lawrence or Mercer counties in Pennsylvania.
New for 2006 is the Legacy Award category being presented in conjunction with the Mahoning/Shenango Planned Giving Council. It is open to individuals or families who demonstrate exceptional generosity by providing financial support to a charitable cause or causes through an irrevocable gift from an estate or through a planned gift.
The award may be given posthumously, said JoAnn Stock, event spokeswoman.
