ON THE SIDE. . .
This and that from the world of Valley politics.
LOSS OF POWER: With all the pre-election, election and post-election coverage, I neglected to mention anything about Democratic and Republican precinct committee member races.
The Hannis were once a Mahoning County power family, but not anymore.
Mark A. Hanni, the Republican nominee for the 59th Ohio House District seat, lost his precinct race 19 to 17.
His brother, Don L. Hanni III, a former Youngstown school board member and failed 2005 Coitsville trustee candidate, lost his precinct race. Hanni, running as a Democrat, lost 102 to 24 against Coitsville Trustee Gerald M. Backo.
Mahoning Democratic Vice Chairwoman Michelle R. Clarett lost her precinct race 45-37. The party's bylaws require all party officeholders, except the chair, to be precinct committee members. When the party holds its reorganizational meeting next month, Clarett is out.
The strangest race pitted Janice Crincic against her husband, David, for Republican precinct committee member from Youngstown Precinct 5B. Janice defeated her husband, 6-2.
