Man charged with attempted theft of jewelry



BOARDMAN -- Police arrested a 22-year-old township man accused of trying to break into a jewelry display case at the Southern Park Mall.
Police were called to Jewels and More about noon Wednesday by a store employee who said that a man wearing a black mask approached the display case, containing about $140,000 in jewels, and struck the glass about five times before fleeing.
Michael E. Stevenson of East Midlothian Boulevard was arrested on one felony charge of attempted theft and three misdemeanor charges of criminal damaging, resisting arrest and obstructing official business after police spotted him driving on Southern Boulevard in a black Saturn that had been identified by a witness.
Stevenson left the car and ran but was arrested when he returned to the vehicle.
