Competition winners to perform Sunday



The presentation of the winning selections is open to the public.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The annual Youngstown State University and Youngstown Music Teachers Association Masters Piano Competition was held May 13 at Bliss Hall on the campus of YSU.
Competing on various levels were 39 entrants. The 16 winners will each receive a $50 bond and will perform their winning selections at a public awards recital to be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the hall.
Winners in various categories are:
Kindergarten through third grade: Alexis Branch, daughter of Staff Sgt. and Mrs. Trevis Branch of Boardman.
Fourth through sixth grade: Lindsay Kirkham-Olsen, daughter of Melanie Olsen and Thomas Kirkham, both of Boardman; Hayley Ward, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ward of Canfield; and Johnna Madison, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John Madison of Salem.
Seventh through ninth grades: Jessica Shearer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reggie Shearer of Wampum, Pa.; Alison (Quihou) Ge, daughter of Weiqing and Shelley Xiaoli of Boardman; Jai-Kai Zhang, son of Yifan Chen and Hao Zhang of Canfield; Leah George, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doug George of Warren; and Dennis Steinbeck, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Steinbeck of Warren.
10th through 12th grades: Timothy Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lee of Howland; Sammy Borzi, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Borzi of Boardman; Kevin Hadi, son of Dr. and Mrs. Antonius Hadi of Howland; and Sean Baran, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Baran of Austintown.
Duet division: Jessica and Bethany Shearer.
Concerto division: Timothy Lee.
The winners are students of Joan Cosgrove, Lisa Czifra, Fanny DiDomenico, Cynthia Evans, Paul Rossi, Dorothy Schwers, Carol Walters and Diane Yazvac.
Serving as chairman of the event was professor Tedrow Perkins. Schwers is president of YMTA.
