Highlights of Wednesday's meeting:
Authorized the building and zoning inspector to issue a building permit for the construction of Park Place Villas. Home and Land Developers of Niles will build one- and two-family villas on a new street, Park Place, off Niles-Vienna Road just east of the Niles Cemetery.
Authorized the administration enter into a master service agreement with American Municipal Power-Ohio Inc. AMP-Ohio is a consortium of communities that generates and buys electricity at a reduced bulk rate and passes it on to members communities to sell to their customers.
Passed to a second reading the repeal of three ordinances requiring the registration of bicycles because the law isn't enforced.
Authorized the annexation of 16 acres from Weathersfield Township that are in Waddell Park. In exchange, about 19 acres of Kerr Cemetery that are in Niles will be transferred to Weathersfield.
Accepted a report by Carmen Vivolo, director of the parks and recreation department, that Lowe's has donated $7,500 for a fishing dock next to the boat dock at Kennedy Park.
Councilman Stephen Papalas, D-at large, asked Safety Director Maurice Guarino to have the police department issue citations to skateboarders who destroy property. Papalas said the department is talking to the young people and telling them to move along when they should be disciplined.
